Long-frame industrial wide belt machines run a 103-inch belt for a reason: more web in the loop means each section of belt spends longer cooling between contacts, and the finish holds steady through long production runs. These 50" x 103" surface conditioning belts are the non-woven finishing belt for those machines, blending the coated-head scratch, rolling burrs on cut edges and laying one uninterrupted directional grain across a full 50-inch stainless, aluminum or steel sheet.
The belt is aluminum oxide grain in a nylon web on a reinforced scrim backing sized for industrial tension and oscillation. At this size we stock Coarse, Medium and Very Fine, sold one belt per order.

Which grade should the finishing head carry?
On a long-frame line this belt is normally the final head, so the grade is chosen by the finish the sheet is shipped with.
- Coarse (40-60 Grit), brown: the cleaning grade. It removes mill haze, light rust and oxidation from plate, knocks down dross on thick laser- and plasma-cut blanks, and gives aluminum plate a bold brushed grain. Under a loaded industrial head it removes measurable material, so set the head light and increase only until the grain is continuous.
- Medium (80-120 Grit), maroon: the deburring and pre-coat grade. Behind a 120 grit coated head it rolls the burr on stainless, mild steel and aluminum blanks and leaves an even medium satin that paint, powder coat and galvanizing prep all accept.
- Very Fine (180-240 Grit), blue: the #4-style graining grade for stainless sheet. Behind a 180–220 grit coated head it produces the long, uniform directional finish that architectural, food-service and appliance specifications call for, across the full 50-inch width.

The non-woven head refines one step of scratch. Set the coated heads so the last coated grit is within one step of the non-woven grade: 120 before Medium, 180 or 220 before Very Fine. A sheet that arrives at the non-woven head with a 60 grit scratch will keep it.

Confirm both dimensions in the manual. Most machines tolerate about a quarter inch of length; a machine specified at 103-1/2 or 104 inches needs a belt made to that length, which we do to order in about 3 days. For 50-inch machines on a 75-inch belt path we stock a 50" x 75" two pack. Mount with the machine locked out; the belt has no direction arrow and goes on either way. Tension to the maker's figure, jog the machine through a full oscillation cycle, and set the non-woven head lighter than the coated heads. Swarf goes to a metal-rated or wet collector.
How to get the most out of it
- Finish the coated sequence at the right grit. 120 for Medium, 180–220 for Very Fine. We make 50" x 103" coated belts to order in aluminum oxide, zirconia and ceramic in about 3 days so the coated heads and the non-woven head can be stocked together.
- Let the length work for you. A 103-inch belt runs cooler than a shorter one at the same feed, so resist the urge to add pressure when the finish is faint; slow the conveyor instead.
- Set pressure by the grain line. Lower the head until the satin is continuous edge to edge and leave it there. Excess pressure tears web fibres, thins the belt unevenly and heats thin sheet.
- Never stop a sheet under the head. A pause leaves a bright band across the full width that cannot be blended without regraining the whole sheet.
- Keep one feed direction. Every sheet goes through the same way, long axis parallel to belt travel, so grain matches sheet to sheet.
- Run cut parts dross side first. Take the heavy burr off the underside, then the show face for the cosmetic pass.
- Lubricate aluminum lightly. A mist or grease stick swipe stops aluminum smearing into the web; stainless and steel run dry.
- Hang the belt when it comes off. A belt this long creases badly if folded and the crease prints through on the next sheet. Do not use a crepe belt eraser on non-woven web.

Frequently asked questions
Why would a machine use a 103-inch belt instead of 75?
Longer-frame machines have a longer belt path around the drum, platen and idlers. The extra length gives each part of the belt more time to cool between contacts and spreads wear over more web, which on a 50" x 103" non-woven belt shows up as steadier finish and longer life on long production runs. The length is fixed by the machine; order what the manual specifies.
How many belts are in an order?

My manual calls for 103-1/2 inches. Will a 103-inch belt fit?
Probably not comfortably. Most wide belt machines tolerate about a quarter inch of belt length, and a half inch short may not reach the tension setting or may run at the top of the tensioner travel. We make non-woven and coated belts to any length in about 3 days, so order the exact length your manual specifies.
Can I deburr thick aluminum plate with this belt?
Yes, after a coated head has taken the dross off. A Coarse or Medium 50" x 103" belt behind a 120 grit coated head rounds the edge and leaves an even satin on aluminum plate. Use a light lubricant so the aluminum does not smear into the web, keep head pressure light, and send the swarf to a metal-rated or wet collector.
Which grade gives a #4 finish on a full stainless sheet?
Very Fine (180-240 Grit). Finish the coated heads at 180 or 220 grit, run the Very Fine belt at light pressure and feed every sheet the same direction. The 50-inch width covers a full sheet in one pass, so there is no overlap line to blend out, and the 103-inch loop keeps the finish consistent from the first sheet to the last.
Is there an Ultra Fine grade in this size?
