Maverick Abrasives has supplied S181 silicon carbide material to glass fabricators and distributors across the USA for more than 20 years. Our belts and discs are built on a premium Y-weight polyester backing that runs wet or dry, and are guaranteed to outperform the PC221 material sold by CR Laurence and others. Stock belt sizes include 1-1/8" x 21", 3" x 21", 3" x 24", 4" x 24", 4" x 54", 4" x 64", 4" x 84", 4" x 106" and 4" x 132", plus 5", 6" and 7" PSA discs, all in packs.

Why silicon carbide for glass

Silicon carbide is harder and sharper than aluminum oxide, and its grains fracture into new cutting edges rather than dulling. On glass that means a faster, cooler cut with less chipping at the edge. Coarse grits (60–80) for seaming and shaping, 120–220 for smoothing, and 320–400 before cerium polish.
