Fifty-inch wide belt machines run full sheets and plate through multi-head finishing lines, and the last head on that line is where a non-woven belt goes. These 50" x 75" surface conditioning belts, sold as a 2 pack, blend the scratch from the coated heads ahead of them, take the burr off cut edges and lay one continuous directional grain across the entire width of stainless, aluminum or steel sheet in a single pass.
The web is aluminum oxide grain in a nylon fibre matrix on a reinforced scrim backing that holds up to industrial tension and oscillation. At this width we stock Coarse, Medium and Very Fine; each order is two belts of the grade you choose, so a spare is on the rack when the line is running.

Which grade should you run on a 50-inch finishing line?
At this width the belt is almost always the last head on a multi-head machine, so choose the grade by the finish the sheet leaves with.
- Coarse (40-60 Grit), brown: cleaning and heavy deburring. It strips mill haze, light rust and oxidation from plate, knocks down dross on thicker laser- and plasma-cut blanks, and puts a bold brushed grain on aluminum plate. It will remove measurable material under a loaded industrial head, so set it light.
- Medium (80-120 Grit), maroon: the production deburring and pre-coat grade. Behind a 120 grit coated head it rolls burrs on stainless, mild steel and aluminum and leaves a uniform medium satin for paint, powder coat or galvanizing prep.
- Very Fine (180-240 Grit), blue: the #4-style graining grade. Behind a 180–220 grit coated head on stainless sheet it produces the long, even directional finish that architectural, food-service and appliance work is specified to, matching mill #4 stock across a full 50-inch sheet.

On a multi-head line the non-woven belt only has to refine the scratch from the head directly ahead of it. Set the coated heads so the final coated grit is within one step of the non-woven grade: 120 before Medium, 180 or 220 before Very Fine.
Which machines take a 50" x 75" surface conditioning belt?

A belt this size is heavy and should be mounted with the machine locked out. Non-woven belts have no direction arrow and go on either way. Tension to the maker's figure, jog the machine and watch a full oscillation cycle to confirm tracking before feeding sheet. Because the web is thicker and more compliant than a cloth belt, the non-woven head should be set lighter than the coated heads; increase only until the grain is continuous edge to edge. Route swarf to a metal-rated or wet collection system. If your machine takes a longer belt, we stock a 50" x 103" version, and other lengths are made to order in about 3 days.
How to get the most out of them
- Match the coated heads to the grade. Finish the coated sequence at 120 grit for Medium or 180–220 grit for Very Fine. We make 50" x 75" coated belts to order in aluminum oxide, zirconia and ceramic in about 3 days, so the whole head set can come from one source.
- Set pressure by the grain line. Lower the head until the satin is continuous across all 50 inches and stop. More pressure tears the web, shortens life and heats thin sheet enough to distort it.
- Feed at a steady speed. Slow the conveyor if the grain is faint; never let a sheet pause under the head, which leaves a bright band across the full width.
- Keep one feed direction. Sheets go through long axis parallel to belt travel, always the same way, so the grain matches sheet to sheet across a job.
- Run cut parts dross side first. Take the heavy burr off the underside, then run the show face for the cosmetic pass.
- Lubricate aluminum lightly. A mist or grease stick swipe stops aluminum smearing into the web. Stainless and steel run dry.
- Skip the belt eraser and store hanging. Crepe rubber pulls web fibres; strong extraction is all the belt needs. Hang the spare belt on a wide dowel or belt rack, never folded, because a crease prints through as a line on the next sheet.

Frequently asked questions
Is the 2 pack two belts of the same grade or one of each?
Two of the same grade. You select Coarse, Medium or Very Fine and receive two 50" x 75" belts of that grade, which lets you keep one on the machine and one hung as a spare. Shops that need more than one grade order a pack of each.
Why is Ultra Fine not offered in 50" x 75"?

My machine is a 52-inch. Will a 50-inch belt work?
Not for full-width sheet. A 50" x 75" belt on a 52-inch drum leaves an unfinished strip along one edge of anything wider than 50 inches. Order the width your manual specifies; we stock coated belts in 52-inch widths and make non-woven belts in any width to order in about 3 days.
Where does the non-woven belt go on a multi-head line?
On the last head. The coated heads ahead of it set the scratch and do the stock removal; the 50" x 75" non-woven belt refines that scratch, rolls the burr and lays the grain. Put it earlier and the coated head behind it removes the finish it made.
How should I handle and store a belt this size?
Mount and remove it with the machine locked out and two people if the guarding requires it. Hang the spare on a wide dowel or a belt rack in a dry area away from sunlight. Never fold or stand a non-woven belt on its edge; the crease or flat spot prints through as a line on the next sheet.
Which grade should stainless sheet get for a #4 finish?
Very Fine (180-240 Grit). Finish the coated heads at 180 or 220 grit, then run the Very Fine belt at light pressure with every sheet fed the same direction. The result is a long, uniform directional grain across the full 50-inch width that matches mill-finish #4 stock.
