Use a dedicated wheel for each polishing stage
2 · Color
Pink airway wheel + green bar
Change to the clean pink wheel with the green coloring compound. Clean and inspect the work between stages.
3 · Finish
Soft UBM wheel + purple bar
Use the separate soft UBM wheel with the purple compound when a finer final polishing stage is needed. Finish depends on preparation and the complete process.
Start with a clean, prepared surface and test the sequence on the actual material. Keep coarse compound residue away from the next wheel. Choose replacement polishing compounds by formula.
Before mounting
Check the complete wheel and machine setup
- Confirm the machine is approved for the wheel type and diameter.
- Match the arbor hole, center plate and manufacturer-specified mounting hardware.
- Check clearance, flanges and guarding, then follow the lowest applicable speed limit from the wheel label and equipment instructions.
A 5/8-inch plain arbor hole and a 5/8-11 threaded spindle are different mounting details. Confirm the approved assembly before selecting a flange or reducer.
Follow the machine and wheel instructions, compound safety data and the protection required for the material and workplace. Buffing can grab edges and throw parts; use the prescribed guarding, workholding and operating method.

What is the three-step wheel and compound sequence?
Start with the red wheel and black cutting bar, change to a clean pink wheel with the green coloring bar, then use the separate soft UBM wheel with the purple bar for a finer final stage when needed. Keep each compound on its dedicated wheel.
Is this the same as the stainless steel mini kit?
These are different kits. This kit provides three wheel-and-bar stages plus safety flanges. The separate stainless mini kit uses red and pink wheels with Black Magic and Yellow Deluxe bars and includes liquid polish, microfiber accessories, safety flanges and a rake. Compare the contents before ordering.
Will the 5/8-inch arbor fit my buffing machine?
Confirm the machine accepts the 8-inch wheel diameter, 3-inch center plate, 5/8-inch arbor hole and required flange arrangement. Check guarding, clearance and the lowest applicable speed rating. A reducer or a matching nominal spindle size does not by itself make a wheel-and-machine combination compatible.
Can this kit remove every scratch from a knife blade?
The finish depends on the starting scratch pattern, preparation, metal and polishing process. Clean and prepare the surface first, test the complete sequence and inspect between stages. Do not rely on a finishing compound to replace the abrasive preparation needed for deeper scratches.
