Job shops that run stainless one day, aluminum the next and carbon steel the day after need a finishing belt that behaves the same on all three. On a 43-inch industrial wide belt machine, these 43" x 75" surface conditioning belts are that belt: a nylon web charged with aluminum oxide grain on a reinforced scrim backing, cool-running and low-loading, that blends the coated scratch, deburrs cut edges and leaves a uniform linear satin across the full sheet.
We stock four grades, Coarse, Medium, Very Fine and Ultra Fine, sold one belt per order, so a shop can hold a Medium for deburring and a Very Fine for #4-style stainless work and add the others as jobs call for them.

Which grade should you choose for each metal?
Because the grades share one web and backing, the choice comes down to the metal in front of you and the finish it leaves with.
- Coarse (40-60 Grit), brown: cleaning. On carbon steel it strips light rust, mill haze and oxidation from plate that has sat in the yard; on aluminum it lays a bold, open brushed grain; on stainless it removes heavy heat tint. It takes measurable material at pressure, so set the head light.
- Medium (80-120 Grit), maroon: deburring and pre-coat satin. Behind a 120 grit coated belt it rolls the burr on laser-cut and sheared blanks in all three metals and leaves the medium matte that paint and powder coat bond to.
- Very Fine (180-240 Grit), blue: the #4-style finish. Behind a 180–220 grit coated belt on stainless sheet it produces the long, even directional grain that architectural and food-service work is specified to. On aluminum it gives a clean medium-fine brush.
- Ultra Fine (320-400 Grit), grey: fine satin and pre-buff. Run after Very Fine on appliance fronts, aluminum trim and parts going to buffing or anodizing. It refines an existing finish; it does not remove scratches on its own.
Keep a dedicated set of belts for stainless. Carbon steel particles carried in a belt's web will embed in stainless and show up later as rust spots.

The non-woven belt refines one step of scratch. Finish the coated head at 120 grit for Medium and at 180 or 220 grit for Very Fine and Ultra Fine; a coarser coated scratch will show through the satin.
Which machines take a 43" x 75" surface conditioning belt?

Some machines in this class are specified for a 44-inch belt; we stock a 44" x 75" version, and a belt narrower than the drum leaves an unfinished strip on full-width sheet, so order the width the manual gives. Length tolerance is about a quarter inch on most machines. The belt has no direction arrow and mounts either way. Tension to the maker's figure, jog the machine through an oscillation cycle to confirm tracking, and set the non-woven head lighter than the coated head; the web needs less pressure to make full contact and tears if overloaded. Swarf goes to a metal-rated or wet collector, never a wood-dust system.
How to get the most out of it
- Set the scratch with the right coated belt for the metal. Our 43" x 75" aluminum oxide and zirconia belts cover aluminum and general steel; our 43" x 75" metalworking belts in zirconia, ceramic and grinding-aid grains cover stainless and heavy steel. Finish at 120 for Medium, 180–220 for Very Fine and Ultra Fine.
- Run light and let the web work. Lower the head until the grain is continuous across the width and stop. Extra pressure tears fibres, shortens life and heats thin sheet.
- Slow the feed before adding pressure if the finish is faint. Never let a sheet pause under the head.
- Keep one feed direction per job. Long axis parallel to belt travel, every part the same way. Mark the grain direction on parts that will be re-run after forming.
- Run cut parts dross side first, then the show face.
- Change belts when you change metals. Keep one set for stainless and another for carbon steel; use a light lubricant on aluminum and run stainless and steel dry.
- No belt eraser, and hang it to store. Crepe rubber pulls web fibres; strong extraction is all the belt needs. A folded non-woven belt creases and the crease prints through as a line.

Frequently asked questions
Should I order a 43-inch or a 44-inch belt for a Timesaver 43-class machine?
Order the width in your manual. Machines in the 43-inch class are specified for either a 43" x 75" or a 44" x 75" belt depending on model and drum width, and we stock both. A belt narrower than the drum leaves an unfinished strip along one edge of full-width sheet; a belt wider than specified may foul the guarding or tracking sensors.
Can I use the same belt on stainless and carbon steel?
You can, but you should not if the stainless finish matters. Carbon steel particles lodge in the web and transfer to the next stainless sheet, where they later show as rust spots. Keep a dedicated 43" x 75" belt set for stainless and swap belts when the job changes metals.
Will the Coarse belt clean rust off plate that has been stored outside?
Light surface rust and oxidation, yes. The Coarse (40-60 Grit) belt strips haze and light rust and leaves a uniform matte ready for a Medium pass or for coating. Heavy pitting or intact mill scale is stock removal and belongs to a coated zirconia or ceramic belt first.
Does this belt work on titanium?
Yes. Titanium responds well to non-woven belts because the web runs cool and does not load; use Medium for deburring and Very Fine for a satin finish, keep pressure light and the feed steady. As with stainless, keep the belt dedicated to titanium so carbon steel particles are not embedded in the surface.
How do I get a matching grain on parts that are run again after forming?
Grain the flat blank long axis parallel to belt travel and mark the direction on the film or with a paint pen. If a formed part must go back through the machine, feed it in the same orientation. If the geometry no longer allows that, blend by hand with a non-woven hand pad in the original direction rather than re-running it crossways.
