Pedestal belt grinders in the 2" x 60" class, the Burr King 760 and BUR77110 and the Kalamazoo BG260HV our original listing named, are production machines, and this is the belt that does their finishing work. After a zirconia or ceramic belt has knocked a weld down, a 2" x 60" non-woven belt blends the ground zone into the parent metal, strips the heat tint, deburrs the edges and leaves a uniform satin on stainless, steel, aluminum and titanium without changing the part.
The 60" loop carries a lot of web, so it runs cool and lasts through long deburring shifts. We convert them in Anaheim, California and pack six of one grade per box in Coarse (brown), Medium (maroon), Very Fine (blue) or Ultra Fine (grey).

Which grade should you run on a 2" x 60" pedestal grinder?
Grade selection on a production grinder comes down to what the coated belt left behind and what finish the part ships with.
- Coarse (brown, 40-60 grit equivalent): mill scale, rust and heavy burrs on hot-rolled and sawn stock, weld spatter, old coatings on parts coming back for rework. The only grade that removes noticeable material; keep it moving on thin sheet.
- Medium (maroon, 80-120 grit equivalent): the production grade. It blends the 80-120 grit scratch from a coated belt into the surrounding surface, removes heat tint from stainless welds, breaks edges on machined and laser-cut parts and evens a steel weldment before paint or powder coat.
- Very Fine (blue, 180-240 grit equivalent): the #4-style directional satin used on food-service, pharmaceutical and architectural stainless, and a clean uniform finish on aluminum and titanium. Use after 150-220 grit coated.
- Ultra Fine (grey, 320-400 grit equivalent): the finest satin and the last belt before a buffing wheel, and the grade for aluminum going to anodizing. We are one of the few converters offering it in belt form.
A typical stainless fabrication sequence: coated 80 grit to level the weld, coated 120 or 150 to refine, Medium non-woven to blend and clean, Very Fine along the grain to match the sheet. For steel headed to powder coat, stop at Medium.

These numbers describe the scratch the web leaves, not its removal rate. A non-woven belt cuts far slower than a coated belt of the same number, which is why it blends a ground weld into the parent metal instead of digging a new low spot.
Which machines take a 2" x 60" belt?

Confirm the length: 2" x 48", 2" x 60" and 2" x 72" are all common grinder belts and they do not interchange. Mounting: release the tension, slip the belt over the contact wheel and drive wheel with any direction arrow on the inside pointing the way the belt runs, re-tension and adjust tracking until the belt runs centred. The web is thicker than cloth, so a small tracking correction is normal after switching from a coated belt. Other sizes are made to order in about three days.
How to get the most out of it on a production grinder
- Drop the speed where the machine allows. Variable-speed grinders should run non-woven well below coated-belt speed. On a fixed-speed pedestal grinder, compensate with light pressure and short contact times.
- Light to moderate pressure. Industrial grinders make it easy to lean in. Do not. Heavy pressure folds the web, heats the part and strips the belt in minutes; light pressure gives the long life these belts are bought for.
- Use the contact wheel for blending, the platen for satin. A weld zone blends best on the wheel; a flat panel or bar gets its even directional satin on the platen.
- Move in one direction. Draw the part along its length in overlapping strokes. Dwelling leaves a bright patch and cross strokes show on stainless.
- Come in from 120-220 grit. Non-woven refines the last coated scratch; it will not remove 36-60 grit marks or a raw weld bead.
- Lubricate lightly on aluminum. A trace of oil or wax stops soft alloys smearing into the web. Run steel, stainless and titanium dry.
- Store belts hung or loosely rolled, away from solvent, sunlight and damp air, and let cold belts warm before running them.

Which 2" x 60" grinders do these surface conditioning belts fit?
Any grinder built for a 2" x 60" belt. Our original listing named the Burr King 760, Burr King BUR77110 and Kalamazoo BG260HV. The belt mounts the same way as the coated belts you already run; because the web is thicker than cloth, expect to touch the tracking adjustment after fitting it.
Can I blend a TIG weld on stainless sheet so it disappears?
Yes, with the right sequence. Level the weld with a coated belt to 120-150 grit, then run Medium (maroon) on the contact wheel to blend the ground zone and remove heat tint, and finish with Very Fine (blue) on the platen, stroking along the sheet grain. The non-woven belt blends without cutting a new low spot.
My pedestal grinder runs fast. Will that ruin the belt?
Speed alone does not; pressure does. On a fixed-speed 2" x 60" grinder, keep contact light and brief, let the belt cool between parts, and avoid dwelling. If the machine has variable speed, run non-woven belts well below coated-belt speed for better finish and longer life.
Which grade should stainless food-service equipment be finished with?
Very Fine (blue) produces the #4-style directional satin most food-service and pharmaceutical stainless specifications call for. Take the surface to 150-220 grit with a coated belt, then run the blue belt in straight, overlapping strokes along the grain. Ultra Fine (grey) gives a finer, lower-sheen satin where a smoother finish is required.
Will it load up on aluminum extrusions?
Much less than a coated belt. The open nylon web sheds aluminum swarf instead of packing it between grains, and it runs cooler. A light wipe of oil or wax on the belt keeps soft alloys from smearing and extends belt life further. Use Medium to deburr and blend, Very Fine or Ultra Fine before anodizing.
How does a 2" x 60" belt differ from 2" x 48" and 2" x 72"?
Same width and construction, different loop length, and each fits only the grinder built for it. The longer the loop, the more web there is to share the heat, so a 60" belt runs cooler and lasts longer than a 48" belt of the same grade. Measure the belt you are replacing before ordering.
