Compact wide belt deburring and finishing machines in the 16-inch class are what small fab shops use to take the slag edge and heat-affected burr off laser, plasma and waterjet parts, and a wood-grade belt lasts minutes on that work. These 16" x 48" metalworking belts are built for it: zirconia with a grinding-aid coat for mild steel and general fabrication, ceramic for stainless and hardened parts, and cloth aluminum oxide for aluminum, brass and every finishing grit from 150 to 600.
All three grains sit on a Y-weight polyester-cotton cloth that runs wet or dry, so the same belt works on a dry deburring machine with a metal-rated collector or a wet-fed graining machine. We convert them in Anaheim, California and ship them three to a pack so a shop can keep a deburr, blend and grain set on the shelf.

Which grain should you choose for your 16" x 48" machine?
Choose by the metal on the table and by how much pressure your machine can put into the belt. A 16-inch deburring machine with a contact drum can load a belt hard; a light single-head finisher cannot.
- Zirconia: the default for mild steel, A36 plate, tube and laser-cut brackets. It micro-fractures under load and keeps a fresh edge as long as you feed it real pressure. Ours carries a grinding aid on the surface and in the resin, which cools the part and slows loading, so it also does well on stainless when ceramic is more than the job needs. Stocked from 24 through 120 grit only.
- Ceramic: the orange-red belt for 304 and 316 stainless, hardened steel, tool steel and any part that blues easily. Ceramic grain renews its cutting edges continuously and removes stock cooler and faster than zirconia, provided the machine presses hard enough to keep it fracturing. On a light machine at low pressure it glazes and heats the part, and zirconia would serve you better.
- Cloth A/O: brown heat-treated aluminum oxide on the same poly-cotton cloth. It is the right grain for aluminum sheet, brass and copper at every grit, and it is the only grain in this listing above 120 grit. Every 150, 180, 220, 320, 400 and 600 grit belt is aluminum oxide.

On aluminum, start no coarser than 60 unless you are levelling a casting, and finish at 120–220 before moving to a non-woven belt. Skipping more than one grade between passes leaves scratches that the fine belt polishes over rather than removes.
What machines take a 16" x 48" belt?

Match both dimensions to your manual. Width must be exact; length tolerance on most wide belt machines is about plus or minus a quarter inch, and the tracking oscillation will centre a belt within that window. We have not verified specific 16-inch machine models for this belt, so check your machine plate before ordering, or send us the belt you are replacing and we will match it. Check the inside of the belt for a direction arrow before mounting; if it has one, run it that way so the joint never lifts against the part.
How to get the most out of them
- Give metal grains pressure. Zirconia and ceramic only self-sharpen under load. Set the contact drum or platen so the belt is actually cutting, not polishing; a shiny belt and a hot part mean the pressure is too low or the belt is done.
- Keep the part moving. Dwell on stainless blues it in seconds. Feed at a steady rate and never stop the conveyor with a part under the head.
- Separate metal dust from wood dust. Steel sparks and fine aluminum in a wood collector are a fire risk. Use a dedicated metal-rated collector or wet collection on this machine.
- Slow down for aluminum. Use a lower belt speed, cloth AO or the grinding-aid zirconia, and rub a grease stick on the running belt when it starts to load; wipe the part before the next grit.
- Run wet where the machine allows. The poly-cotton backing tolerates coolant, and a wet head cuts heat tint and dust on stainless graining work.
- Clean and store properly. Dress loaded belts with a crepe belt eraser at light pressure, hang spares on a wide peg away from humidity and sunlight, and let cold belts reach room temperature before running.

Frequently asked questions
Will a 16" x 48" metalworking belt deburr laser-cut steel parts?
Yes, that is the main job this size is bought for. Run a 40–60 grit zirconia belt on the contact drum to remove the cut burr and dross, then an 80–120 zirconia or ceramic pass to blend. Feed steadily, keep the collector metal-rated, and switch to cloth aluminum oxide if you continue into finishing grits.
Which grain is best for stainless steel on a 16-inch deburring machine?
Ceramic, if the machine can apply firm pressure; it cuts cooler and keeps a constant rate on 304 and 316. On a lighter machine, our grinding-aid zirconia is the safer choice because the lubricating top coat controls heat at moderate pressure. Either way keep the part moving so it never blues.
Can these 16" x 48" belts be run wet?
Yes. All three grains are on a Y-weight polyester-cotton cloth that runs wet or dry, so they suit coolant-fed graining machines as well as dry deburring machines. Wet running reduces heat tint on stainless and keeps aluminum from loading the belt.
Why is zirconia only offered up to 120 grit?
Zirconia does its work by fracturing under pressure at coarse and medium grits. Above 120 it leaves a bright scratch rather than a finish and no longer earns its cost, so 150 through 600 grit belts in this listing are cloth aluminum oxide, which is the right grain for fine graining and pre-polish.
How do I stop aluminum from clogging the belt?
Use cloth aluminum oxide or the grinding-aid zirconia, drop the belt speed, and apply a grease stick to the running belt when it starts to squeal or pack. Start no coarser than 60 grit on sheet and extrusions, and clean the belt with a crepe eraser rather than pressing harder.
How many belts are in a pack and can I mix grits?
