A 6" pressure-sensitive adhesive disc is the size most glass shops and stone fabricators run on 6" pneumatic disc sanders and on the larger backing plates of flat glass edging and bevelling heads. We build these with silicon carbide on cloth, so the disc keeps cutting glass, granite, quartz, acrylic and concrete under a water feed instead of rounding over the way aluminum oxide does. The ungritted cork option in the same listing is the polishing carrier you charge with cerium oxide once the edge is at 400–800 grit.
Each box holds 50 discs of one grit with no arbor hole, so the whole face of a smooth 6" PSA plate is covered. Buyers are typically shower-door and tabletop fabricators, countertop shops, art-glass studios and composite or boat shops that need a wet-capable disc with a full grit progression from one supplier.

Which material and grit should you choose?
Two materials are offered: Silicon Carbide in twelve grits and Cork as an ungritted polishing disc. Buy by the stage your edge is at.
- Silicon Carbide 50 and 60 grit: first pass on a fresh score-cut edge, knocking off chips and shells, shaping a flat or pencil edge, roughing a bevel. On stone, this is the shaping grit after diamond.
- Silicon Carbide 80 and 100 grit: truing the edge and taking out the 50–60 scratch. Most shops run 60 then 100 on a two-station line.
- Silicon Carbide 120 and 150 grit: the intermediate step that a lot of people skip and then regret when a ghost line shows through the polish.
- Silicon Carbide 180 and 220 grit: a uniform seamed or satin edge. If the piece will not be polished, stop here.
- Silicon Carbide 320 and 400 grit: fine matte. This is the lowest grit we would go straight to cork from.
- Silicon Carbide 600 and 800 grit: pre-polish. An 800 grit edge takes far less time and compound on the cork disc than a 400 grit edge.
- Ungritted Cork: no abrasive of its own. Run it wet with a cerium oxide (or pumice) slurry to turn a fine matte edge clear.
For acrylic and polycarbonate, 120 → 220 → 400 then flame or buff. For fiberglass and gelcoat fairing, 50–80 to level, 120–220 to finish. For concrete, terrazzo and tile, 50–120 wet does most of the work.

What machines and pads does a 6" PSA no-hole disc fit?
- 6" pneumatic disc sanders and vertical polishers fitted with a smooth PSA (sticky-back) pad. This is the most common home for the size in glass and stone shops.
- Flat glass edging, seaming and bevelling machines whose heads carry a plain 6" steel, aluminum or phenolic plate.
- Bench and pedestal disc sanders with a 6" platen in plastics, composite and pattern shops.
- 6" electric disc and dual-action sanders with a PSA conversion pad, running dry on fiberglass or acrylic with dust extraction.
The attachment is adhesive, not hook-and-loop. Peel the liner, land the disc on a clean, dry, solvent-wiped plate from the centre outward and press it flat. A disc that has been peeled off will not re-stick reliably; treat it as spent. With no arbor hole there is nothing to line up, and no bare metal at the centre to scratch a workpiece when you tilt into the disc.
How to get the most out of them
- Keep water on the glass. A drip or flood keeps the edge cool enough to avoid micro-checks, flushes swarf before it scratches, and keeps silica dust out of the air. If you must run dry, wear a fitted respirator and use extraction.
- Use the weight of the part, not your arms. Pressure chips glass edges and glazes silicon carbide. Feed the glass across the disc at a steady speed with the edge flat to the face.
- Sweep across the face. Working one ring of the disc wears a groove and rounds your edge. Move the piece from the centre to the rim and back.
- Change grits in order. Each disc only removes the scratch left by the one before it. Skipping from 100 to 400 leaves scratches the cork stage cannot reach.
- Rinse between grits. One 60 grit particle carried onto a 400 grit disc will score the edge. Rinse the glass and your hands, and change the water when it clouds.
- Charge cork properly. Mix cerium oxide with water to a thin paste, brush it onto the spinning cork disc, and keep the disc damp. Re-charge when the cut slows; never let it cake and run dry.
- Store the box closed. Adhesive backs pick up dust and lose tack; keep unused discs on their liners at room temperature.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need the 5", 6" or 7" glass fabrication disc?
Match the disc to your backing plate or pad diameter. The 6" PSA disc suits 6" pneumatic disc sanders and 6" edging-head plates; the 5" PSA disc fits smaller pads and grinders; the 7" disc is offered plain or PSA with or without a 7/8" arbor hole for 7" polishers. Measure the pad, not the guard.
Can a 6" PSA silicon carbide disc run under water?
Yes. Silicon carbide is bonded to a cloth backing, and both the cloth and the adhesive tolerate a continuous water feed for the life of the disc. Wet running is how we recommend using them on glass and stone; paper-backed discs swell and delaminate under the same conditions.
Which grit should I start with on a fresh-cut glass edge?
Start at 50 or 60 grit to remove chips and shape the edge, then move to 100, 150 or 180, and 220 for a satin edge. If the edge will be polished, continue to 400 and 800 before switching to the cork disc. Never skip more than one step in the sequence.
What compound goes on the cork disc?
Cerium oxide mixed with water to a thin paste is the standard for a clear polish on glass. Pumice slurry is a cheaper pre-polish. Apply the compound to the spinning cork disc, keep it damp, and re-charge as the cut slows. Compound is not included with the discs.
Will these 6" discs work on granite and quartz countertops?
Yes. Silicon carbide is the traditional grain for stone edge refinement after diamond shaping. Run them wet, start at 60–80 grit to remove tooling marks, step through 120 and 220, and stop at 400 before your resin or felt polishing pads. Rinse the stone between grits to avoid carried-over scratches.
Why is there no arbor hole in a PSA disc?
A PSA disc is held by adhesive over its whole back, so it does not need a centre bolt. Leaving the centre solid gives full grain coverage across the plate, keeps water from wicking under the disc from the middle, and means there is no bare metal at the centre to mark the workpiece.
