Putting a straight, repeatable grain on stainless sheet is the job a 25-inch Timesaver-type wide belt sander does better than any hand tool, and the belt decides whether that grain comes out even or streaked and heat-tinted. These 25" x 60" Timesaver belts for metal give you the three grains that work: ceramic for stainless and hardened steel under real pressure, zirconia with a grinding aid for mild steel and cooler running on stainless, and cloth aluminum oxide for aluminum and every finishing grit from 150 through 600.
All three sit on a Y-weight polyester-cotton cloth that runs wet or dry, which matters on a graining machine with a coolant head. We convert them in Anaheim, California, two belts to a pack, so a shop can keep the grit it runs most on the shelf without buying a case.

Which grain gives the grain finish you want on stainless, steel or aluminum?
Think of these belts in two roles: the coarse and medium grits that remove material, where grain type matters most, and the fine grits that set the visible finish, where technique matters more than grain.
- Ceramic (orange-red): the stock-removal belt for stainless, hardened steel and tool steel when your machine can lean into it. Ceramic renews its cutting points continuously, so it holds a near-constant rate and removes stock cooler than zirconia. Run it at low pressure on a light machine and it glazes, heats the sheet and leaves tint; that is a pressure problem, not a belt problem.
- Zirconia (green or blue): the belt for mild steel plate, tube and A36 fabrications, and the cooler choice on stainless when the machine cannot load ceramic. Ours carries a grinding aid in the resin bond and a second grinding aid coated on top, which lubricates the cut and lowers part temperature. Zirconia is stocked 24–120 grit.
- Cloth A/O (brown): heat-treated aluminum oxide on poly-cotton cloth. Use it for aluminum sheet and plate, brass and copper at every grit, and for all fine graining and pre-polish work, because it is the only grain in this listing at 150, 180, 220, 320, 400 and 600.
For a standard brushed stainless look, most shops finish with AO at 150–220 and then a surface conditioning belt. For a finer satin, continue to 320–400 before the non-woven pass. Not every grain is stocked in every grit; the selector shows the live combinations.

Never jump more than one grade. A 320 belt will not remove an 80 scratch; it will polish the bottom of it and the line reappears under the finish. On aluminum, begin at 60–80 and finish 120–220 before a non-woven belt, using a grease stick if the belt starts to load.
What machines take a 25" x 60" Timesaver belt?
- 25-inch Timesaver-type wide belt sanders set up for metal, whether a dedicated deburring and graining machine or a Timesaver-class woodworking machine converted with a metal-rated dust system.
- 24–25 inch open-end shop wide belt sanders of the Grizzly 24-inch class and SuperMax or Laguna 25-50 style, where the manual specifies a 60-inch loop.
- Single-head deburring machines used on laser, plasma and waterjet parts up to 25 inches wide.
Timesaver is a brand and, in most shops, the generic name for a wide belt sander, so check the actual belt dimensions on your machine plate rather than the name. Width must match; length tolerance on most machines is about plus or minus a quarter inch. We have not verified specific model numbers for this size. If your machine takes a length other than 60 inches, we make it to order in about three days. Check the inside of the belt for a direction arrow before mounting and run it that way if one is printed.
How to get the most out of them
- Dust and sparks first. Steel sparks or fine aluminum entering a collector with wood dust in it is a fire risk. Use a dedicated metal-rated collector, a spark trap, or wet collection on any machine that runs these belts.
- Set pressure for the grain. Ceramic and zirconia must be loaded to self-sharpen. If the belt looks shiny and the part is warm, increase depth of cut or feed, or change to a fresh belt; do not slow the conveyor.
- Keep the sheet moving. Dwell blues stainless. Feed at a constant rate and never stop a part under the head.
- Grain on the platen. Use the contact drum for 24–120 removal and switch to platen pressure for 150 and finer so the scratch is flat and uniform across the width.
- Run wet if you can. The poly-cotton backing tolerates coolant, and a wet head produces a cleaner grain on stainless with less tint and no airborne dust.
- Aluminum runs slower. Lower belt speed, cloth AO or the grinding-aid zirconia, and a grease stick on the running belt when it loads. Clean with a crepe eraser.
- Store hanging on a wide peg away from humidity and sunlight, and let cold belts reach room temperature before running.

Frequently asked questions
Which 25" x 60" belt gives a brushed finish on stainless steel?
A brushed stainless grain comes from cloth aluminum oxide at 150–220 grit run on the platen with steady feed, followed by a surface conditioning belt to soften the scratch. Use ceramic or zirconia only for the coarse removal passes before that; above 120 grit they leave a bright, uneven scratch.
Is a Timesaver belt different from a wide belt sander belt?
No. Timesaver is a brand of wide belt sander and the name most shops use for any wide belt machine. A 25" x 60" Timesaver belt is simply a 25-inch wide, 60-inch long wide belt. Match your machine plate dimensions and the belt will fit regardless of the machine brand.
Why is my stainless sheet turning blue under the belt?
Bluing is heat, and on a wide belt it usually means too little pressure with ceramic or zirconia, a glazed or worn belt, or a part that stopped under the head. Increase the cut so the grain fractures, keep the conveyor moving, run coolant if the machine has it, and change the belt when it stops cutting.
Can I run these 25" x 60" belts on aluminum?
Yes. Use cloth aluminum oxide, or the grinding-aid zirconia for heavier removal, at a lower belt speed. Start at 60–80 grit, not coarser, finish at 120–220, and rub a grease stick on the running belt when it starts to load. Clean the belt with a crepe eraser instead of pressing harder.
Do these belts run wet?
Yes. All three grains are on a Y-weight polyester-cotton cloth built to run wet or dry, so they suit coolant-fed graining machines and wet deburring heads. Wet running lowers part temperature, reduces heat tint on stainless and keeps dust out of the air.
How many belts per pack, and can you match a different length?
