1" x 50 Yard Flexible Abrasive Shop Roll
Maximum Flexibility for Precision Metalworking Our 1-inch J-Weight Shop Rolls are the industrial standard for "contour sanding." Unlike stiff X-weight cloth, the J-weight backing is extra light and flexible, allowing it to conform perfectly to cylindrical parts, intricate turnings, and tight radii without snapping or kinking.
Crafted with premium Aluminum Oxide grain, these rolls are designed for manual sanding or use on a lathe. Whether you are polishing a shaft to a specific tolerance or deburring the inside of a pipe, Maverick shop rolls provide a consistent, uniform finish
The grits we offer are 120 grit, 150 grit, 180 grit, 220 grit, 320 grit & 400 grit.
The Maverick Shop Roll Advantage:
-
Easy-Tear Backing: The cloth is designed to be torn cleanly to any length, so you only use exactly what you need for the job.
-
J-Weight Flexibility: The "J" stands for "Jeans"—providing a soft, supple feel that wraps around spindles and pipes with ease.
-
Anti-Clog Grain: Resin-over-resin bond ensures the grain stays on the cloth while resisting loading from metal swarf or wood dust.
-
Standard 50-Yard Length: Each roll provides 150 feet of abrasive, making it a long-lasting addition to any workbench or maintenance cart.
What is the best type of shop roll to use?
Aluminum oxide is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut-rate and long lifespan. This mineral makes up a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges. Most traditional natural abrasives do not self-fracture and tend to dull more quickly. Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. Aluminum oxide abrasive can be used on ferrous and non-ferrous metals, wood, and plastic.
What is the best applications for handy rolls?
Applications are Blending, Cleaning, Contour Finishing, Deburring, Rust Removal.
What are abrasive shop rolls best for?
With our Aluminum Oxide Shop Rolls, you can cut the desired length from the roll that is most appropriate for the job you're working on. Most grades have a light, J-weight cloth backing that provides the flexibility needed to conform to circular edges, angles, or other contours.
Where to Use J-Weight Shop Rolls
Because of its narrow width and extreme flexibility, this roll is the "Go-To" abrasive for:
-
Lathe Turning: Polishing metal or wood shafts while they spin.
-
Plumbing & Pipe Fitting: Cleaning copper pipes and fittings before soldering.
-
Gunsmithing: Polishing barrels and internal components.
-
Maintenance & Repair: Removing rust and corrosion from hard-to-reach bolts and parts.

Frequently Asked questions about 1" wide SHop rolls:
-
Q: Can I use this for wet sanding?
-
A: While the J-weight cloth is highly durable, these rolls are primarily designed for dry use. For constant water exposure, we recommend our waterproof film or paper products.
-
-
Q: Does the cloth tear easily by hand?
-
A: Yes! It is designed to be torn easily across the width, allowing you to pull off custom-sized strips for manual "shoe-shine" style sanding.
-
-
Q: Is this the same as "Emery Cloth"?
-
A: It serves the same purpose but is technically superior. We use Aluminum Oxide, which is harder and lasts longer than traditional natural Emery grain.
