DISC SELECTION GUIDE

Which SAVAGE sanding disc should you choose?

Match the physical fit first. Then choose the grit for the sanding stage.

  1. 1
    Match the diameter

Select 5-inch or 6-inch to match your backing pad.

  2. 2
    Match the attachment

Choose hook-and-loop or PSA according to the pad. For hook-and-loop, confirm whether you need no holes or a multi-hole pattern.

  3. 3
    Choose the grit

Start with the least aggressive grit that will reach the needed result, then move through finer grits without making large jumps.

No-hole hook-and-loop

50 discs per box

For compatible hook-and-loop pads when a hole pattern is not required.

Multi-hole hook-and-loop

50 discs per box

For compatible multi-hole hook-and-loop pads and dust-extraction setups.

PSA film

100 discs per box

Pressure-sensitive adhesive backing for compatible PSA sanding pads.

GRIT GUIDE

What does each grit range do?

60–80Aggressive removal

Initial stock or finish removal when the surface needs a stronger cut.

100–150Blend & level

Intermediate sanding after heavier removal and before final preparation.

180–220Finish preparation

Refine the surface before many coating, finishing, or paint-prep steps.

320–400Fine refinement

Fine sanding and scuffing where a lighter scratch pattern is needed.

600–800Extra-fine refinement

Available on the 5-inch multi-hole style for extra-fine sanding stages.

Material matters: coating type, substrate, tool speed, pressure, and desired finish all affect the right starting grit. Test on a small area when the finish is critical.

HOW TO USE

A simple sanding routine

  1. 01

Confirm the pad diameter, attachment type, hole pattern, and disc grit.

  2. 02

Center the disc on the pad. Align extraction holes when using the multi-hole style.

  3. 03

Start with the least aggressive grit that can do the work and keep the sander flat.

  4. 04

Keep the tool moving with controlled pressure. Move through finer grits without large jumps.

  5. 05

Replace the disc when cutting slows or the abrasive is damaged.

Follow the tool and material manufacturers’ safety guidance. Use appropriate personal protective equipment and dust collection for the material being sanded.

SAVAGE DISC FAQ

Questions before you choose a disc?

Should I choose hook-and-loop or PSA discs?

Choose hook-and-loop when your sander has a compatible hook-and-loop backing pad and you want to remove and reuse a disc. Choose PSA film when your backing pad accepts pressure-sensitive adhesive discs. Verify the pad attachment before ordering.

Which grit should I start with?

Use 60–80 grit for aggressive removal, 100–150 for blending and intermediate sanding, 180–220 for finish preparation, and 320–400 for fine refinement. The 5-inch multi-hole option also offers 600 and 800 grit. Start with the least aggressive grit that will do the job.

Will these discs fit my sander?

Match all three details: 5-inch or 6-inch diameter, hook-and-loop or PSA attachment, and the required hole pattern. Model compatibility depends on the backing pad configuration, so check the pad rather than relying on the sander brand alone.

Can I use SAVAGE ceramic discs on wood and metal?

Yes. The product is offered for wood and metal surface preparation, stock removal, finish removal, and paint preparation. Choose a grit and sanding routine appropriate for the material and coating.

Can I wet sand with these discs?

No wet-use specification is supplied on this product listing. Treat these as dry-sanding discs unless Maverick Abrasives confirms a wet application for your exact disc and process.

How many discs are in a box?

Hook-and-loop variants contain 50 discs per box. PSA film variants contain 100 discs per box. The box quantity is also shown in the Style option before you add to cart.

What is the shipping and return policy?

Eligible contiguous U.S. orders over $200 receive free standard shipping. Returns require prior approval, and eligibility and return-shipping costs depend on the item and order. Verified defective items qualify for replacement or money back under the store policy.
