Choose the diameter specified for the grinder and backing pad. All listed discs have a 7/8-inch arbor hole and require the compatible retaining and guarding system.

RESIN FIBER DISC CONSTRUCTION
The abrasive grain, resin bond, fiber backing, backing pad, and grinder all contribute to the cut. A fiber disc is replaceable coated abrasive media; the backing pad supplies the support it does not have by itself.
The exposed abrasive face removes metal while the fiber backing carries the load. Inspect both the abrasive face and backing before every use.
Use the compatible pad diameter, face density, retainer, and arbor system. A resin fiber disc must not be run unsupported.

BACKING PAD DECISION GUIDE
Use only a pad approved for the selected disc and grinder. Pad-manufacturer instructions control, but face density generally changes how firmly the abrasive engages the work.
A firmer face is commonly used when a coarse grit needs strong, flatter contact for stock removal. It can feel less forgiving near edges and contours.
A more compliant face is commonly paired with finer grades and blending where some conformity is useful. It is not a substitute for the correct technique.
The disc, pad, retainer, guard, and grinder must accept the same diameter and 7/8-inch arbor system shown in the selector.
A damaged or uneven pad changes disc support and contact. Inspect it before mounting a new disc and follow its replacement criteria.
GRIT PROGRESSION
Choose the least aggressive grit that completes the required removal, then remove its scratch with the next appropriate stage. The exact sequence depends on the metal and final finish.
Use when the process needs the deepest cut in the live range. Control edge digging, heat, and part geometry.
Use for weld leveling and aggressive surface correction when 24 grit is unnecessarily coarse or as the next stage after it.
Use to reduce the coarse scratch and begin smoothing the transition between a weld area and surrounding metal.
Use for finer blending and preparation where the next coating, abrasive, or finishing step accepts an 80-grit scratch.
Use for the finest scratch offered on this page. It does not replace later finishing media when the specification requires a finer surface.
CHOOSE THE DISC TYPE
These accessories are not interchangeable. Confirm the grinder and job are designed for the accessory type you select.
Choose for a low-profile grinding and blending system with separate pad support and a broad grit progression.
A flap disc does not use the separate resin-fiber backing pad and produces a different cut, feel, wear pattern, and edge profile.
A bonded grinding wheel has different mounting, guarding, use, inspection, and operating requirements. Never substitute one accessory type for another without confirming the complete system.
