Perfect for knife makers, metalworkers, and woodworkers, each belt is designed with premium ceramic grains for aggressive stock removal, cooler sanding, and a flawless finish.
Why Maverick 2x72 Sanding Belts?
✅ Cool Running: Advanced resin-over-resin bonding reduces heat friction, protecting the temper of your steel blades.
✅ Tear-Resistant Joints: Precision butt-joints allow for bi-directional running and zero "bump" during delicate grinding tasks.
✅ Versatile Grain Options: Available in Ceramic (best for hardened steel), Zirconia (best for stainless and heavy removal), and Aluminum Oxide (best for wood and general fab).
What the different 2" x 72" materials like aluminum oxide, Ceramic, A/O J-flex & Zirconia do and which is right for you?
Aluminum oxide X-weight - Aluminum Oxide Belts are X-weight with a poly-cotton backing and can be run in both wet & dry applications and are good for both metal and wood. They have a wide grit range from 36 all the way to 800 grit. While the grit range is wide, these belts are not the best for stock removal on stainless steel or steel in grits 24 through 120.
Aluminum Oxide J-flex - J-flex belts are extra flexible belts that are used for slack belt sanding or when you need curvaceous sanding capabilities. These are not used when you are sanding against a platen because they are thin and flexible. These come in select grits!
Zirconia - Zirconia sanding belts are great for economical stock removal and are only available in grits 24, 36, 40, 60, 80, 100 & 120. If you are doing aluminum or light stainless work these will be good. However if you are wanting to do steel or stainless steel and need to do heavy stock removal we highly suggest going with Ceramic. These can be ran wet or dry and are made on a y-weight poly-cotton backing.
Ceramic - Ceramic sanding belts are made for heavy stock removal and are available in grits 36, 40, 60, 80 & 120. These are made to withstand heat, pressure and they love speed! These can be run wet or dry as well because they are made with a Y-weight Poly-cotton backing that is super durable. These are for stainless steel and steel! The Ceramic belts are "Self-sharpening" also which is why they are so coveted by metalworkers and knife makers alike!
